US Assault Vest Body (Gas Mask)
In May 1944, these were issued in limited numbers to troops of the 1st, 4th, and 29th Infantry Divisions as well as the 2nd Ranger Battalion for the invasion of France. They were often seen as bulky, hot and too heavy, therefore being ditched by most troops within a month. Sought to replace the munitions belt and gear, it was sorely a flop!
